Read the desktop organization guide
Who is Glass Desktop Box™ designed for?

It is designed for people and teams who work with many files: individuals, freelancers, creative professionals, project teams, IT support and organizations that want clearer visual workspaces.

Does the application usa artificial intelligence?

No AI model is embedded in the installed application to scan, classify, rename or move your files. You create and control your workspaces manually. AI tools assisted parts of product development, while Nox is a separate website support assistant that searches prepared product information.

Do I need an internet connection?

Local organization features work without an internet connection. Internet access is required for online activation, updates, browser-based transfers and internet-based collaboration. Enterprise LAN capabilities are planned for controlled internal networks.

What happens on the first start?

A new user chooses between a simple start with one private Organizer Box and one Workspace Box, or a coordinated Desktop Experience. Existing Boxes and contents must never be overwritten silently.

Where can I get help before or after installing?

Usa the Knowledge Base for detailed guides, ask Nox a question in English or email support@glassdesktopbox.com. Nox searches prepared product information and points to relevant public guides.

Desktop Boxes & File Organization

What is a Desktop Box?

A Desktop Box is a visual workspace on your desktop. It can hold project-related files and folders and can be positioned, resized, collapsed and customized to support a particular workflow.

Explore Desktop Boxes
Are my files stored in a proprietary database?

No. Your files remain normal files in normal folders. Glass Desktop Box™ provides a visual working layer without trapping your content in a proprietary file database.

Can I connect an existing folder to a Box?

Yes. Folder Portals connect a Box to a real folder already stored on your computer, allowing you to work with the folder through a visual workspace.

How many Desktop Boxes can I create?

You can create an unlimited number of local Desktop Boxes and use a separate workspace for each project, client or responsibility.

What are Selection Tabs?

Selection Tabs are named sections inside a Box. They let you switch between related groups of files without creating a separate workspace for every section.

See Selection Tabs
What is the difference between an Organizer Box and a Workspace Box?

An Organizer Box is the private local organizational Box previously referred to as LiteBox. A Workspace Box is the complete workspace previously referred to as FullBox. Current support content uses the new names.

Which file types can I place in a Box?

Organizer Boxes and Workspace Boxes accept normal files, files without an extension and complete programming projects. Protected operating-system locations, internal Glass Desktop Box data and files that Windows has exclusively locked are excluded for safety.

Can I place programming projects in a Box?

Yes. Source files and complete project folders, including projects that contain .git or solution files, are supported. Operating-system folders and the application's own protected data locations remain excluded.

Work safely with local files

Opening, editing & saving files

How do I open a file stored in a Box?

Open it directly in the Box by double-clicking it, selecting it and pressing Enter, or choosing Open from the right-click menu. Glass Desktop Box passes the file to Windows, which starts the default application for that file type.

What is the default action for files and folders?

For files, Open is the first action. For folders, Open in File Explorer is the first action. Double-clicking and selecting an item and pressing Enter always perform that same primary action.

Do I need to find an internal Glass Desktop Box folder?

No. Local files remain at their original location. Open a connected folder from its Box and then continue working normally in File Explorer, Word, Excel, CAD or another Windows application. New contents created inside a connected folder are retained together with the complete folder.

When does Glass Desktop Box use a protected working copy?

Only intentional Remote and ProBox workflows use a protected, managed working copy. This copy is no longer physically located on the desktop and must be clearly identified as a working copy. Local Organizer files and connected folders remain at their original location.

Which file types can I open?

Any existing file type for which Windows knows a suitable application can generally be opened. This includes Office, PDF, CAD and 3D, image and layout, audio, video, text, source-code and archive files, as well as folders and shortcuts. Glass Desktop Box does not convert the file.

What happens if no application is installed for a file type?

Windows cannot start a suitable application and may offer an app selection. The file remains unchanged in the Box. Install a compatible program or set a Windows default app for that file type.

How do I open a file with a different application?

Right-click the file and use Open with in the Windows context menu. If that menu is temporarily unavailable, Glass Desktop Box immediately shows its own fallback menu with Open.

Can I edit and save an opened file normally?

Yes. The responsible Windows application opens the file normally. Use Save to update it at its current location. Protected Workspace or ProBox workflows additionally follow their rules for originals, working copies and synchronization.

What should I know about Save As?

Save As usually creates a new file at the location you choose. That new file is not automatically assigned to the previous Box. Drag it into the desired Box if it should appear there as well.

Why is a local file not visible in the normal Desktop folder while it is in a Box?

A local Organizer file keeps its stable original path but is hidden on the Windows desktop while assigned to a Box. This prevents duplicate display as both a desktop icon and a Box item. Open and edit it directly from the Box during that time.

How can Word, Excel, CAD software or another application find the file?

The reliable method is to open the file from Glass Desktop Box, which knows its stable path and passes it directly to the correct application. A third-party File > Open dialog may not show hidden desktop files; an opened file may also appear in that application's recent-files list.

Why can a file remain hidden after I remove it from a Box?

If the same physical file is still assigned to another Box, it remains protected and hidden on the desktop. It becomes visible only after the final valid Box assignment has ended.

How do I return a file to its original location?

Remove it using the intended Box action, clear the relevant Selection Tab or close the Box through its safety dialog. Glass Desktop Box checks the original destination and handles name conflicts or locked locations without silently overwriting a file.

What if a file was renamed, moved or locked, or its drive was disconnected?

A missing or unreachable path is not treated as success. No other file is overwritten without permission, and relevant file and transaction data remains available for recovery and conflict resolution. Close the locking program, reconnect the drive or use the Recovery Center.

Does opening a local file upload it automatically?

No. Opening a local Organizer file only starts the assigned application. Data is transferred only when you explicitly use a Workspace, Remote or ProBox transfer function.

Do double-click, Enter and right-click work the same way for images, videos, CAD and other formats?

Yes. Operation is independent of file type. Windows opens each file in its assigned image editor, media player, CAD program or other application.

Why is there no additional Open button for selected files?

A separate button would enlarge the interface without adding a function. The familiar Windows methods remain available: double-click, Enter and Open as the first context-menu command. A tooltip explains these controls on each file item.

Handle everyday organization confidently

Creating & Editing Desktop Boxes

How do I create a new Organizer Box or Workspace Box?

Use the Box creation controls in Glass Desktop Box or the tray controls when no Box is visible. Choose the appropriate Box type, give it a clear name and then add the files or folders that belong to that task.

Watch the first-steps tutorial
Can I rename a Desktop Box without changing its files?

Yes. Rename the Box through its editing controls. The new title changes the visible workspace label; it does not rename the files stored in or connected to that Box.

How do I organize files with drag and drop?

Drag selected files or folders into the intended Organizer Box or Workspace Box. Glass Desktop Box works with real local files rather than uploading them to a permanent cloud folder. Keep an independent backup of irreplaceable data.

Watch the desktop-organization tutorial
Can I use my own image as a Box background?

Yes. Open the visual settings for the Box and select a compatible local image. Background, color, transparency and image intensity remain adjustable for each Box, so the content can stay readable.

Box Visibility, Closing & Recovery

Should my Boxes return after restarting Windows?

Yes. Boxes that were not explicitly closed or hidden should be restored after the application starts. They remain visible in their saved expanded or minimized state unless the user deliberately closes them, hides them through the tray controls or ends the application.

What happens when I minimize a Box?

Minimizing changes only the Box display. Its organization, files and saved state remain available and the Box can be expanded again.

What happens when I close a Box with the X button?

Closing a Box is a deliberate removal of that Box organization, not a normal minimize action. The application must show a prominent confirmation and explain how the underlying files are handled before completing the close operation.

Can I create a new Box after closing all Boxes?

Yes. Glass Desktop Box continues through its tray icon unless the application was explicitly ended. Opening the desktop shortcut or application again also provides access to the Box creation controls.

Why must the tray icon remain available?

The tray icon is the persistent control point for showing Boxes, creating new Boxes and ending the application. Closing the last visible Box must not silently remove access to the running application.

What happens when I create another Box?

Boxes of the same family are minimized first so they do not overlap chaotically. The new Organizer Box or new Workspace/ProBox opens centrally, while the other Box family remains independent.

What is the uninstall recovery folder?

It is a safety export used only when files or Box content cannot be returned to their expected location during uninstall. It should not appear when there is nothing to recover, and its plain-language read-me explains any preserved items.

What does ‘Move back failed’ mean?

The application could not automatically return one or more items to their former source path, for example because the source no longer exists or a file is locked. The source data is preserved instead of being discarded, and the recovery information identifies the affected item.

Understand warnings and recover safely

File safety, recovery & everyday troubleshooting

My file disappeared from the desktop. Was it deleted?

For normal desktop files, the original file path remains unchanged. Glass Desktop Box hides the desktop icon and shows the file inside the Box. Removing it from the Box or closing the Box makes it visible again.

Read the file recovery guide
Where are my files after I close a Box?

Files with a clearly known origin return to their original storage location. Only real files whose origin cannot be determined safely appear in File Recovery.

Why can a file not be returned to its original location?

If another file with the same name already exists in the original location, no file is overwritten. The file from the Box is kept safely in the Recovery Center. From there, you can restore it to any location under a new name using “Save As”. If the file cannot currently be moved or secured, it remains safely in the Box.

Why does a Save As window open during recovery?

The original location is no longer unambiguous or another file already occupies it. You therefore choose the storage location and filename yourself.

Why does File Recovery show Page 1, Page 2 and so on?

Each view displays no more than eight recoverable files. Page means only the next view inside the application; it does not refer to a Word or PDF page.

Why is File Recovery empty?

It contains only real, clickable and recoverable user files. Logs, chats, temporary items and technical application files are not shown.

Why do my previous settings return after reinstalling?

Uninstall can retain license activation, device ID and personal settings for a later reinstall. To start completely fresh, explicitly confirm during uninstall that these personal data should also be removed.

Why is Glass Desktop Box still running after I close a window?

Closing a window can leave the application running in the Windows tray. Use the tray icon to reopen Boxes, create a new Box or exit the application completely.

Why can I not close or empty a locked Box?

This is intentional file protection. Before closing, emptying, merging or fully hiding the Box, unlock it with the PIN, a security answer or its individual recovery code.

What if I forgot the PIN and the security answers?

An individual recovery code is shown once during setup. It can be used to set a new PIN. Without the PIN, a correct security answer or the recovery code, the Box must not be unlocked.

What happens when I apply a Desktop Experience?

You choose whether to replace the existing layout or add new Boxes. Existing Box names remain unchanged when only the design is refreshed. A reset and rollback mechanism protects the operation.

View Desktop Experience presets
Why is the wrong Box image visible after switching presets?

In version 1.6.6, an older settings window must no longer overwrite a newly selected preset. If this still happens, check the installed version first. It is a reportable defect, not normal operation.

Why does Windows say that the source and destination filenames are identical?

This message must not appear when normally removing a desktop file from a Box in the current version. It indicates an old installation or a regression that should be reported.

Why does adding a large folder take a long time?

Folders containing very many files, such as development projects with build folders, need more processing and can slow the Box. The application therefore shows a warning in advance.

Why was a file import or transfer stopped because of insufficient disk space?

The application preserves a safety margin on the drive. Normal file operations keep between 1 and 10 GB free depending on drive size; interactive remote transfers keep an emergency reserve of at least 256 MB.

Why could the desktop background not be changed?

Possible causes include missing Windows permissions, group policies, a missing image or another wallpaper application. Use Restore previous desktop background to return to the earlier image.

Why do videos and 3D animations use significant system resources?

Several animated Boxes and high-resolution desktop animations consume GPU, memory and energy. On less powerful devices, use fewer animations at once or replace individual Box backgrounds with images.

Desktop Experiences & Presets

How many Desktop Experiences are currently available?

Glass Desktop Box currently contains 16 complete one-click presets, 30 curated image collections with 414 backgrounds, and 201 silent motion backgrounds. These are three distinct content groups, not one combined count.

View the complete presets
What does each complete Desktop Experience preset include?

Each preset combines a coordinated wallpaper, three Organizer Boxes, three Workspace Boxes, individual box images, colors, transparency and image-intensity settings. It is a starting configuration, not a fixed screenshot.

View the complete presets
What happens to my existing boxes when I apply a preset?

The application asks before making changes. Existing boxes and their contents can be retained and restyled, or the preset boxes can be added. Existing files are not replaced by applying a visual preset.

View the complete presets
Can I change every box after applying a Desktop Experience?

Yes. Wallpaper, box background, color, alpha transparency, image intensity, size and arrangement remain independently adjustable for every box.

View the complete presets
Are Desktop Experiences shared automatically with collaborators?

No. A Desktop Experience is primarily a local visual configuration. Remote Desktop Box and ProBox share the selected workspace and files; they do not silently overwrite another participant’s personal desktop design.

View the complete presets
Do Desktop Experiences work offline and how do animations affect performance?

Installed presets, images and animations work locally without a permanent internet connection. Static images use fewer resources; video impact depends on resolution, codec and hardware, and playback can be disabled at any time.

View the complete presets
Can I restore my earlier setup and use multiple monitors?

Existing boxes can be preserved when a preset is applied, and the previous wallpaper can be restored. Boxes can be positioned across supported monitors; exact wallpaper behavior follows the operating system and the installed Glass Desktop Box version.

View the complete presets
Can I create and save my own Desktop Experience preset?

You can personalize every supplied preset by changing Boxes, positions, colors, transparency, images, videos and the desktop background. These changes form your personal desktop setup. The current website does not document a separate command for publishing or sharing that setup as a reusable custom preset, so this is not presented as an available feature.

720p

Media resolution and playback quality

What resolution do the included MP4 animations and static images have?

The included video animations are predominantly supplied at a source resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels (720p); individual animations may use different dimensions. Included static images have asset-specific dimensions. Unless a specific asset is expressly described otherwise, uniform Full HD (1080p), 2K or 4K quality is not promised for all included media.

Why can an animation look different on the desktop, inside a Box or in the website preview?

For an animated desktop background, the application uses the original supplied source and scales it to the selected monitor. To reduce resource use, animated Box backgrounds use working frames 960 pixels wide; the current version processes included video animations at 12 frames per second and no more than 120 decoded frames per playback sequence. Detail and fluidity can therefore differ depending on the display area, hardware, graphics driver, monitor resolution and the number of animations running at once. Website previews are compressed separately for fast loading and are not a quality reference for playback in the application.

How many animated Boxes can I use together with an animated desktop background?

Glass Desktop Box does not impose a fixed limit on the number of local Boxes, but the number of animations that can run smoothly at the same time depends on your computer. On a suitably equipped modern PC, roughly 10 to 20 animated Boxes together with an animated desktop background can often be practical; this is a guide, not a performance guarantee. Processor performance, available memory, graphics hardware and driver, monitor resolution, the size and content of the animations, and other programs running at the same time all matter. Free drive space is also required to store the media, but it does not by itself guarantee smooth playback. On older or less powerful systems, use fewer simultaneous animations or static backgrounds.

Is it normal that the videos have no sound?

Yes. The regular website previews, product demonstrations and animated desktop backgrounds are intentionally created without an audio track. This keeps them unobtrusive during everyday work and prevents them from interrupting conversations or other media. Separately identified information videos may include audio and subtitles.

How do I use or change a 3D animated desktop background?

First reset the desktop background that is currently in use. Then select and activate the new 3D animated background. Order: reset the current background → choose a new 3D animation → activate it. Resetting ensures that the previous animated background is stopped completely and replaced correctly.

How do I change the image or 3D animation of a Desktop Box?

If the Desktop Box already uses a 3D animation, reset the Box first. You can then select and apply a new background image or another 3D animation. Order: reset the existing 3D animation → choose the new content → apply it. This removes the previous animation cleanly and prevents it from overlapping the new content.

How do I add a 3D animation?

Open Desktop Experiences, choose 3D Animations, inspect the real preview image and select Preview. The preview plays once. Select the animation and then apply it to the current Box or as the desktop background. An applied background runs as a continuous loop.

How do I remove a video or 3D animation from a Box?

Open Desktop Experiences for that Box and choose Remove video. The animation stops and the Box returns to its independent color or static background image. Removing a video never removes files from the Box.

Can I use a 3D animation as the desktop background?

Yes. Select a supplied animation and choose Use as desktop background. Stop desktop animation or Restore previous desktop background returns to the previous state. If a static wallpaper is active, the guided action replaces it instead of layering two backgrounds.

Why does a preview not loop?

A preview intentionally plays once so you can inspect it without an endless background process. Only an animation that you deliberately apply to a Box or desktop runs continuously.

How many animations are included and can I use my own video?

The current library contains 201 supplied animations. You can also choose your own compatible local video for your own Box or desktop, but personal videos remain private and are not part of branded Experience sharing or ProBox animation synchronization.

What performance does an animated background require?

Use a supported 64-bit Windows system with current graphics drivers, working hardware video decoding and enough free storage. Test multiple monitors and battery operation individually. Reduce or stop motion whenever it affects comfort, battery life or responsiveness.

Check your Windows hardware before installing or using animations

System Requirements & Storage

What are the system requirements for Glass Desktop Box?

The Windows minimum is Windows 11 64-bit, a four-core processor at 2.0 GHz or faster, 8 GB of RAM, DirectX 12-compatible graphics with a current driver, a 1280 × 720 display and at least 5 GB free on the Windows system drive. An HDD is technically supported. We recommend an up-to-date Windows 11 installation, an 8th-generation Intel Core i5, AMD Ryzen 5 or equivalent, 16 GB of RAM, Intel UHD 630 or better, Full HD or higher, an SSD and at least 10 GB kept free. Local Boxes work offline; activation, HTTPS, ProBox and updates require internet access.

What are the requirements for 3D animations?

3D animations require at least 8 GB of RAM, four CPU cores at 2.0 GHz, DirectX 12-compatible graphics, a current graphics driver and 5 GB free on the system drive; an SSD is recommended. For several animated Boxes, two or more monitors or resolutions above Full HD, we recommend 16 GB of RAM and a modern integrated or dedicated GPU.

How much free storage does Glass Desktop Box need?

At least 5 GB must be free on the Windows system drive before installation or an update; keeping at least 10 GB free is recommended. This covers about 1.1 GB of installed program data plus included animations and images, high-resolution caches, safe updates, temporary transfers and recovery files. Depending on the scene, resolution and monitor count, an animated desktop typically uses another 20–75 MB of cache per animation and monitor; using many animations can accumulate several hundred MB.

What happens when free storage is too low?

The application protects the Windows system drive from becoming completely full. If free space is insufficient, file transfers, animation generation or other storage-intensive operations may stop for safety. Never let free space fall below 2 GB; keep at least 10 GB free for reliable updates, animations and recovery.

Do user files require additional storage?

Yes. The stated 5 or 10 GB covers only the application, animations, updates and caches. File transfers, ProBox working copies and recovery require additional space for user files. As a safe guide, keep at least twice the size of the largest file being processed or transferred at once; a 10 GB file therefore calls for at least 20 GB of additional free space.

Do animations work with integrated graphics?

Yes. The application has been tested on Intel UHD Graphics 630 with 8 GB of RAM and an Intel Core i5-8500, including multiple animated Boxes. For multiple monitors, 4K or many simultaneously visible animations, we recommend 16 GB of RAM and a more capable modern GPU.

Can Glass Desktop Box be used with 4 GB of RAM?

No, not reliably for animated Boxes or an animated desktop. The minimum is 8 GB of RAM. Static Boxes may start on lower-specification devices, but reliable operation is not assured there.

What happens if servers, Hetzner or a network connection are overloaded or unavailable?

Local Desktop Boxes and local file organisation generally remain usable without a server connection. Online functions such as activation, HTTPS transfer, invitations, signalling and TURN/relay depend on internet access, networks and third-party technical services. Server infrastructure is currently provided in part by Hetzner Online GmbH. Exceptional demand, maintenance, security measures, DDoS attacks or failures at a network or infrastructure operator may temporarily delay, queue, rate-limit, interrupt or reject connections. Glass Desktop Box takes reasonable technical measures, but without a separate SLA it does not guarantee uninterrupted availability or a successful direct P2P connection. For outages caused exclusively by third parties and not attributable to the provider, liability applies only to the extent required by law; mandatory consumer, warranty and liability rights remain fully unaffected.

Why can a firewall, VPN or corporate policy prevent a connection?

Firewalls, VPNs, proxies, NAT rules, DNS or content filters, endpoint protection and corporate network policies may restrict or completely block HTTPS, P2P or ProBox connections. Glass Desktop Box does not bypass these local security rules. On a managed network, contact the responsible system or network administrator. Do not disable or weaken protective measures yourself; changes should be made only by authorised personnel following a security review. A block caused exclusively by the customer-controlled system or network configuration is outside the provider’s responsibility and does not by itself constitute a product defect. If, however, the disruption results from a breach attributable to the provider, your mandatory statutory rights remain unaffected.

Can Glass Desktop Box be used on smartphones or tablets?

No. Glass Desktop Box is a desktop-only application and runs solely on the desktop operating systems expressly supported. The website, including FAQs, tutorials and support, is accessible on smartphones and tablets, but this does not provide mobile app functionality. The application cannot be installed or run on Android, iOS or iPadOS. The published system requirements apply.

Send files directly

P2P Transfer & Browser File Sharing

Is live collaboration and P2P transfer included in Starter and Starter Plus?

Yes. Browser-based collaboration and P2P transfers are included in Starter and Starter Plus. The plans differ in included monthly transfer volume; ProBox workspaces require an appropriate ProBox plan.

What does peer-to-peer file transfer mean?

Peer-to-peer transfer is designed to send data directly between participating devices whenever technically possible instead of first storing the file in a permanent cloud folder.

Learn about direct sharing
What happens when a direct P2P route is not available?

A compatible relay route may be used to complete the transfer. A relay is a transport fallback, not a permanent user file archive.

What is the maximum file size for a Remote file transfer?

For standard Remote file transfers, the maximum upload size is 1 GB per file.

Does the recipient need to install the application?

A recipient can use the HTTPS guest page for supported browser-based transfers without installing the application. Shared ProBox workspaces require compatible Glass Desktop Box software and the appropriate access.

What can an HTTPS guest do?

During an active invitation, a guest can view shared files, download permitted items, upload files or folders to the host, replace permitted files and use the session chat. The exact controls depend on the host's session and permissions.

Are transferred files permanently stored in cloud storage?

The product is designed for direct or relayed transfer rather than permanent cloud-file storage. Connection services may establish or relay a session, but they are not presented as a permanent user file archive.

Why can an upload fail?

An upload can fail if the session ended, storage reservation is insufficient, the file is locked, a size or plan limit is exceeded, the connection is interrupted or the host is no longer available. The interface should identify the affected item and provide a useful reason instead of only showing a technical code.

How long does a Starter remote session remain active?

A Starter one-click remote session is technically configured for a maximum duration of up to eight hours. This is the intended session limit, not a guarantee that every connection will remain uninterrupted for eight hours. Connection quality, network changes, device settings, browser behavior, power-saving functions or other technical interruptions may end a session earlier. If a remote session is interrupted or has expired, start a new session and create a new invitation link. The previous link cannot be used to resume the disconnected session.

Work together remotely

Remote ProBox™ & Collaboration

What is Remote ProBox™?

Remote ProBox™ is the licensed remote collaboration capability for a shared visual workspace. It brings project files, context and communication together without broadcasting the user's entire desktop.

Read the remote collaboration guide
Is Remote ProBox™ the same as screen sharing?

No. Screen sharing broadcasts a view of another computer. Remote ProBox™ is designed around a shared visual workspace and its permitted project content.

Can multiple participants work in the same ProBox?

Authorized participants can work in the same active ProBox session. Participant names, file actions, chat and connection events should remain attributable in the session history.

What happens when one participant leaves?

The departing participant disconnects while the host and remaining participants continue. The host must not mark the entire ProBox as disconnected merely because one guest left, and the departure should be visible to the remaining session.

Does the group chat work for every participant?

The active ProBox chat is intended for all authorized participants, with messages identified by participant name. Delivery depends on the active session and connection state.

Do participants see supplied animated backgrounds?

For supplied animations, the ProBox synchronizes the animation ID, speed and loop state. Each compatible licensed installation plays its matching local asset, so the large video file does not need to be retransmitted.

Are privately uploaded videos synchronized to ProBox guests?

No. A private user video remains local to its owner. Guests receive a clear static fallback, and the host is informed that personal videos are not streamed or synchronized.

Are original versions preserved when shared files are changed?

The collaboration workflow is designed to preserve recoverable originals of changed shared files and record relevant actions. This safety mechanism does not replace an independent backup strategy.

When is a conventional shared folder the better choice?

A shared folder may be sufficient when a team only needs common file access. Remote ProBox™ is more appropriate when files need visual project context, workspace structure and live collaboration.

Compare both approaches

Remote ProBox™

Branded remote sessions

How do I use my own image for a remote session?

1. Open the Remote area in a FullBox. 2. Under “Remote Window Display”, select “Custom Photo”. 3. Click “Choose Photo” and select your image. 4. Check that the file name appears below the button. 5. Start the session with “Start remote and create email invitation”. The selected image appears on the left side of the remote page shown to the invited guest and completely replaces the standard Glass Desktop Box preview.

Which image format is recommended for a branded remote session?

For the best presentation, use a portrait image with a 4:5 aspect ratio. The recommended size is 1600 × 2000 pixels; alternatively, use at least 1200 × 1500 pixels while always keeping the 4:5 ratio. Use PNG for logos, lettering and graphics, JPG/JPEG for photos, or WebP for a particularly small file with good quality. For fast loading, keep the file at approximately 5–10 MB or less. Because the image fills the entire presentation area, small parts of the outer edges may be cropped on some screens. Keep logos, text and important subjects centered and leave a safe margin of about 10% on all four sides. Do not upload a transparent logo by itself on a transparent background; place it on a suitable background color or a complete brand visual first.

Resolve connection and transfer problems

Remote & ProBox troubleshooting

Why can Remote not be started?

Remote requires a valid license. A firewall, VPN, security software, router or unavailable tunnel can also prevent the connection.

Read the Remote collaboration guide
Why is the host offline or the invitation not working?

The host must still have the session open. Invitations can expire, be revoked or belong to a session that already ended. The host must then create a new link.

Why is the P2P connection unavailable?

Routers, corporate networks, VPNs or firewalls can block direct P2P connections. The application tries a relay fallback, which can be slower.

Why is a large file not transferred?

A browser or RemoteBox file can be up to 1 GB. Without an active P2P file channel, files over 100 MB are not sent by HTTPS as a fallback. A ProBox file can be up to 5 GB.

What does relay usage of 80%, 95% or 100% mean?

The transfer is using a relay service rather than direct P2P. The application warns at 80% and 95%. At 100%, relay fallback is no longer available in the Starter plan.

Why can no additional guest join?

A ProBox supports no more than five simultaneously connected guests.

Why can a guest not edit a file?

For safe shared editing, the guest needs edit approval from the host. This helps prevent several participants from overwriting the same file with conflicting changes.

What does SHA-256 verification failed mean?

The received file does not fully match the file that was sent. The transfer is therefore not marked as successful and should be started again.

Share

Sharing Desktop Experiences safely

Where can I share a Desktop Experience or animation?

Sharing is available inside Background Images and inside the 3D Animation picker and live preview. It is not placed in unrelated Box-creation or startup dialogs.

Which media can be shared through Glass Desktop Box?

Only supplied Glass Desktop Box Experiences, images and animations may use the product sharing flow and its approved branding. A share link can open a localized Experience page; available destinations depend on the device and installed apps.

Are my own videos shared or branded?

No. A personal or privately uploaded image or video is never stamped with Glass Desktop Box branding and is not distributed through the branded Experience-sharing flow.

Do invited ProBox users see a supplied animation?

Yes, for supplied animations the ProBox synchronizes the animation ID, speed and loop state. Each licensed participant plays the matching local asset; the large video file is not retransmitted. Participants need a compatible application version and the same supplied library.

Do my own uploaded videos synchronize in a ProBox?

No. User-supplied videos remain local to the host. The host receives a clear notice, and invited users see the supported static fallback instead of a private video stream.

May a commercial app share to WhatsApp, TikTok and other services?

The operating system's native share sheet may offer installed services for links or media. That does not grant blanket approval for every provider API. Direct posting requires the provider's current review, user authorization and content rules. TikTok, for example, restricts promotional watermarks in content sent through its posting API.

Which maximum file sizes are currently supported?

Public HTTPS fallback supports up to 100 MB per file, direct browser or RemoteBox transfers up to 1 GB, and direct ProBox-to-ProBox P2P transfers up to 5 GB per file.

Does a direct LAN transfer use the internet or relay traffic?

No. A direct browser, RemoteBox or ProBox transfer within the local network does not consume cloud storage, relay traffic or internet data. Existing hardware, network, licence and electricity costs still apply.

What happens to a file larger than 5 GB?

For direct ProBox P2P, the program automatically divides the file into transfer units of no more than 5 GB each. You do not have to split it manually.

Are product updates included?

Yes. Bug fixes, security updates and product updates are included. Updating does not require a new license activation each time, and local user data is stored separately from the program files.

How long does the annual subscription run, and when can I cancel?

The initial term is twelve months and is paid in advance. Consumers may cancel during the initial term with effect at its end, subject to a notice period of no more than one month. If the subscription is not cancelled, it continues for consumers for an indefinite period and is billed monthly. It can then be cancelled at any time with no more than one month’s notice; no new fixed twelve-month commitment is created. The gross monthly prices from month 13 are Starter €0.99, Starter Plus €2.97, ProBox €5.95 and ProBox Duo €9.92. Different renewal terms may apply to businesses where expressly agreed.

What happens to Glass Desktop Box and my files when the subscription ends?

When the subscription ends after cancellation, the installed application, your local Desktop Boxes, their arrangement and your local files remain on the computer activated for the license. Nothing is automatically deleted, moved, encrypted or locked. Local Box organization can continue to be used on that computer. Only the server-side entitlement to subscribed services ends. Remote file transfers, ProBox connections, plan-based transfer allowances, new feature and product updates, and regular voluntary technical product support are then no longer available. Mandatory statutory rights, including defect remedies, security updates and consumer rights, remain unaffected.

Can Glass Desktop Box access my computer after the subscription ends?

No. Glass Desktop Box has no hidden remote access to your computer, either during the subscription or after it ends. Your local files, Boxes and settings remain on your device. Ending the subscription only disables the server-side entitlement for remote services, file transfers and other subscribed services.

2026

Availability, requirements and updates

When will the Glass Desktop Box plans be available?

Starter and Starter Plus will be available from September 3, 2026. ProBox and ProBox Duo will be available from September 15, 2026. Enterprise 100 and Enterprise 500 will be available from October 1, 2026.

What are the technical requirements?

Use a currently supported 64-bit Windows version, current system and graphics updates, sufficient free storage for the app, selected media and transfers, and normal write access to the user data folders. Internet access is required for activation, updates and remote sharing; local organization can continue without permanent cloud storage.

Does Glass Desktop Box use artificial intelligence?

The core desktop application does not contain or run an AI model and does not use AI to inspect, classify, rename or move your files. AI tools assisted parts of product development. That development process is separate from what runs inside the installed application.

Are updates included?

Yes. Bug fixes, security updates and product updates are included; an update does not require a new activation each time. User data and the license are stored separately from program files so an update can be installed over the existing version.

How does the first-start choice work?

A new user chooses between a simple start with one private Organizer Box and one Workspace Box, or a coordinated Desktop Experience. Existing Boxes and contents must never be overwritten silently; adding a preset requires an explicit keep-or-add decision.

Privacy, Security & Technical Support

Where do my local workspace files remain?

Your local files remain in normal folders on your computer. Creating, minimizing or closing a visual Box does not turn those files into cloud documents.

Can I protect a Box with a PIN?

Yes. PIN protection can restrict access to compatible workspaces. It complements, but does not replace, operating-system accounts, device encryption, antivirus protection and organizational security controls.

What happens if a file operation is interrupted?

Glass Desktop Box™ uses recovery-first handling and transaction records intended to reduce the risk of files silently disappearing. Unfinished operations are checked after restart and source data is preserved when automatic recovery cannot complete.

Does Glass Desktop Box sell my files or use them for advertising?

The product is not designed to sell user files or use their contents for advertising. The privacy notice describes which account, licensing, support, transfer and website data may be processed.

Are my own videos branded when I share them?

No. User-supplied images and videos never receive automatic Glass Desktop Box branding. Only approved supplied Experience media can use the branded Experience-sharing flow.

Which operating systems are available?

Windows is available now. Native macOS and Linux versions are in preparation and scheduled for October 1, 2026. They must not be presented as already available before release.

What are the Windows requirements?

Use a currently supported 64-bit Windows version, current system and graphics updates, sufficient free storage, normal write access to the user data folders and working hardware video decoding for animated backgrounds.
